Vegetable oils for natural skincare

Jul 27, 2019 | Articles

Vegetable (plant) oils occur naturally in plants of all kinds. The oil is derived from different parts of plants through (cold) pressing the seeds, nuts, and kernels of plants to release the fat containing oil. It’s should be mentioned that these oils form the foundation of most natural skincare products.

If you like to use natural cosmetics but still haven’t tried to apply any pure vegetable oil on your skin, then you should at least start to think about it 🙂

Why?

I accidentally discovered that my skin simply adores pure vegetable oil. I was making face creams once. Somehow I did not use all oil that was firstly meant for my new cream. I desided to try to apply oil directly on my face skin. After a while I noticed that I did not have any heavy or greasy feeling on my face skin. In fact, my skin had more smooth feeling with nice glow.

That was totally »aha« moment for me. Even though I read many times before how good oils could be for the skin. But I was not so sure, because in general meaning I mostly like to try first something, then I am able to deside if it’s good or bad for me. I definitely got a positive experience!

But not only that. I became extremely motivated to find out what are benefits of vegetable oils and how they could make my skin better. As a curious person I started to discover the world of vegetable oils. And starting to recognize the differences between them.

I’ve discovered so many benefits of using vegetable oils that they’ve become irreplaceable in my skincare.

Let’s take a look at least few facts about oils.

Fatty acids, vitamins, nutrients, minerals, antioxidants

Vegetable oils contains vitamins, nutrients and minerals that are required by our cells to function properly. By using the right oils we can improve skin complexion. We can repair damage, regenerate, tone and protect the skin, hydrate and moisturize and delay the signs of aging.

Here are some examples of oils and their benefits:

  • rosehip oil is rich in vitamin A and is excellent for skin regeneration;
  • avocado, hazelnut and sunflower oils are rich in vitamin E;
  • pumpkin seed oil contains omega 6 fatty acid which has anti-inflammatory benefit to the skin;
  • olive oil is high in oleic acid which is absorbed easily and has a moisturizing effect on the skin.

Differences between oils

As we can see, it’s quite useful to get know with differences between vegetable oils. Consequently, it’s much easier to choose the right one particularly suitable for your skin.

We recognize not only differences in colour, smell, being exotic, high cost or something else. For example, take some oils you have at home and try to compare them. You will notice that:

  • some oils are more thick and fatty;
  • some oils are particulary good for oily or dry skin;
  • oils can be absorbed fast or slowly;
  • and some of them have special humectant qualities.

Therefore, all carrier oils are known as emollients that soften and smoothe the skin preventing water loss, dryness, damage and irritation.

Simple natural skincare products

Most of benefits mentioned above are the strong reason to make my own natural cosmetics, which contain these precious oils. They’ve become the strongest part of my natural cosmetics.

Considering all benefits of vegetable oils, I’ve become very sensitive about their quality. Higher the quality of oils, better results can be noticed on my skin, that’s for sure.

As a result, I constantly make my own blends of oils for face skin or mix them to make a body oil. It’s a very good feeling when I use my own body oil after taking a shower. My skin feels more smooth and nourised. Also cleansing products can be made from vegetable oils. They are very effective to remove the dirt or make up from the face.

Sometimes I just take one single vegetable oil and apply it on my face or body. Jojoba oil is a must have in my collection.
